Zygomatic surgery aims to reduce and relocate the maximal malar projection (MMP), which is the point where the cheekbones protrude the furthest.
The osteotomy line and the direction of movement of
the osteotomized bone must be varied appropriately depending on the position of the MMP in order to provide satisfactory outcomes.

Because the zygomatic bones have a complex three-dimensional structure, in addition to reduction, it is important to realign the zygomatic bones to maintain the normal anatomical structure and

Soda’s Zygomatic Surgery Procedure

For zygomatic reduction, incisions are made inside the mouth and at the sideburns.

When the body of the zygomatic bone is large (45° cheekbones)

Depending on the bone width, a planned amount of the body of the zygomatic bone is cut and removed in an L-shape. The bone is set back to make a natural curve from the excessively protruding bone. To prevent sagging and increase contact between the bone surfaces, the bone is rotated and fixed securely with pins.

For developed zygomatic arches

After making an incision of approximately 1 cm in the skin at the sideburns, the lateral zygomatic arch is cut, set back, and fixed firmly with pins.

Square Jaw Reduction

In the case of a developed jaw (mandibular) angle, an incision is made in the mouth and the jaw bone is cut to make a narrower, smoother jawline. In order to make a smooth jawline without additional angles and to maximize the effect from the front, the jaw bone is cut in a long line extending to the front of the jaw. Unlike typical procedures that require drain insertion, based on our ample experience and technical skill, the likelihood of drain insertion at Soda is less than 1%.

Cortical Osteotomy

If osteotomy of the mandible alone has a limited effect because the square jaw is developed too far inwards, or if the body of the mandible is too thick, the cortical bone is removed to improve the effect from the front.

After cutting the chin bone horizontally, the resected bone is moved forward or backward by the planned amount and fixed.
